Indoor Grow Lights
Do you need indoor grow lights for hydroponic plants?
If your indoor growing area has enough natural sunlight, you may not need extra light. However,
most homes don't get enough natural light and extra lighting is needed. Even if you think you have enough
natural light you may want to protect your investment with some additional lighting.
Simple incandescent and fluorescent lighting won't do. They don't provide the complete
spectrum of lighting that hydroponic plants need. Lights designed for indoor gardening do. They are
designed to resemble natural sunlight at different times of year.
High Intensity Discharge lights (HID) are the ones to look for use with hydroponic
gardens.
They come in two main types:
Metal Halide (MH) MH is considered an all-purpose growing light
MH produces blue spectrum light such as that generated by the sun in the height of summer.
High Pressure Sodium (HPS) HPS generates the red and yellow spectrums typical of sunlight in
the fall. HPS is also used for flowering plants.
