Hydroponic Tomatoes

Hydroponic tomatoes are delicious, nutritious, and fun to grow.

These tomatoes taste better and are more nourishing than those grown in fields.

The sweetness of the tomato is dependent on temperature and light. A hydroponic grow system controls these environmental conditions.

Planting the hydroponic tomatoes:

Mix the necessary nutrients and water in correct proportions.

The PH of the medium should be 5.5-6.5.

Add growing medium to anchor your plants

Rinse the tomato seedlings in the solution before planting

Optimum conditions for hydroponics tomatoes:

Temperature:
A temperature of 70° to 80°F at daytime and no less 50°F at night time is preferred.

Lighting:
See Indoor Grow Lights. Tomatoes use the blue part of the light spectrum and need 18 hours of light per day.

Humidity:
Hydroponic tomatoes like 70% humidity.  High humidity results in calcium deficiency in the plants.

Check water and nutrient solution regularly

Why grow hydroponic tomatoes.

1. No soil borne diseases.  Fruit will appear healthier.

2. Not nearly as many insects and pests. A gardeners worst problem is solved.

3. After initial setup, running costs will be around 20% lower than soil gardening.

4. Plant more tomatoes in a smaller area. Hydroponic tomato roots don't need to grow as large to get nutrients.  Although plants usually yield larger tomatoes

5. Maintenance time greatly reduced. No weeding, no daily watering.  Just harvest your produce.

6. Can be a year long yield because you have manipulated the growing conditions to be optimum.

7. Grow hydroponic tomatoes anywhere you like; window ledge, garage, bedroom, rooftop, etc..

8. Optimal growing conditions usually result in about a 40% larger tomato.

9. No danger of under or over watering the tomatoes. A big problem for many new soil gardeners.
